a portent message by karin taylor
This is a funny poem I penned, with a little positive message… it was inspired by a little drawing my son Ben did when he was a very young. I hope you/your kids, like it…it’s fun and meant to be read out aloud with a rythm and quite fast, it’s also a little bit tongue-twisting and confounding …enjoy!
I swung by the ocean and flew high up way
over the top of the circular bay
The seagulls peculiarly hungry that day
were squealing and swooping for chips in the quay
a little one danced by the rocks near the sea
she seemed so absorbed sang obliviously
I thought to myself oh now me oh now my
I think that today is the best of my life
I walked on the jetty and splintered my toe
thinking ouch now that hurts and a seed then was sown
When I stretched out to yawn with my face to the sun
I kinked then my neck and a bee nearby stung
my bottom it ached and it felt like three pins
had visited lately and stuck themselves in
I cried and I wailed in the sun now so hot
and I winced as I noticed a hole in my sock
I sat down then quiet and calmed under palms
that were swaying so gently they sheltered my arms
Gratefully lay I did down in the sand
that was cooled by the shade of my coconut friend
I sailed in and out of a dreamy white land
I sung here my songs and forgot all my pain
When I rose to go home all my ailments had eased
and I took a deep breath of the sweet ocean breeze
